Public Health Program Passes the Test . . . with Flying Colors
The School of Health Sciences and Practice's (SHSP) public health program recently earned the maximum term of accreditation--seven years--by the Council for Education on Public Health (CEPH). With the delivery of a final interim report in May 2016, the SHSP public health program is accredited through July 1, 2022. The national accreditation process is intensely rigorous to ensure that schools and programs of public health are effectively preparing their students for impactful careers in the field and that they are all guided by the same broad mission of public health -- defined by CEPH in 1978 as "enhancing health in human populations, through organized community effort." School of Medicine Class of 2017 Transitions to the Clinical Years
The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) Student Clinician Ceremony on June 30 marked a new chapter in the medical education of the Class of 2017 -- the clinical years. The ceremony was created by GHHS to provide guidance, information and support to medical students beginning their clerkships. After taking a student oath, the Class of 2017 contemplated the challenges ahead and the imperative to provide humanistic care to patients, even while being pressed to demonstrate high standards of skill performance. Each member of the class was presented with a booklet containing wisdom and advice from members of the upperclassmen including personal anecdotes and tips on surviving and thriving in this new chapter of their medical education. The ceremony also included the presentation of the Gold Foundation's Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Awards to six residents selected by the outgoing third-year class for exhibiting strong teaching skills and being role models for compassionate, relationship-centered care.
