NYMC Enters Academic Affiliation with NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln
New York Medical College (NYMC) and NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, have entered into an academic affiliation designating the hospital as a teaching site for NYMC's undergraduate medical students. The hospital will offer core clerkships in pediatrics, medicine, surgery and psychiatry, as well as elective rotations in emergency medicine and surgical and medical subspecialties. NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln is a full-service acute care hospital, serving the downtown Bronx community.

SOM Hosts Virtual GHHS Student Clinician Ceremony
Although it was virtual, it was no less meaningful for the School of Medicine (SOM) Class of 2021 when they marked another milestone in their medical education with their participation in the online Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) Student Clinician Ceremony on June 29. The ceremony, which marks the transition from being pre-clinical medical students to students who are engaged in full direct patient contact, was created by the GHHS to provide guidance, information and support to medical students as they start their clerkships and underscore the challenges and imperatives to providing humanistic care to patients.

Meet the Doctors: NYMC Sheds Light on Summer Camp Safety
As day camps open for business, parents wonder, is it safe to send my children back to camp?
After months of COVID-19 necessitated quarantine, New York State is slowly reopening for business including camp--leaving parents to decide, is summer camp in the time of COVID-19 safe? To answer this question, on July 1, New York Medical College (NYMC) hosted a free community webinar: Summer Camp: Is It Safe, Yet? The lecture was part of NYMC's "Meet the Doctors" series on health-related topics of interest to the community, which provides a venue for participants to learn from health care professionals on subjects ranging topics from Zika, concussions, Autism, family caregiving and the effects of substance abuse in minors. Bench to Bedside Webinar Focuses on COVID-19: Vaccine and Testing Challenges
The latest webinar in the Bench to Bedside series on June 30 addressed the state of COVID-19 testing and vaccine development. Moderated by Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., vice president for research at New York Medical College (NYMC) and provost for biomedical research at Touro College and University System (TCUS), the webinar featured four experts who covered approaches, implementation, interpretation and clinical implications of COVID-19 testing, testing critically ill patients and vaccine and antiviral drug development. "In any crisis you need to look from a brighter perspective. To see all the segments of the biomedical industry, whether in academia, hospitals or research institutions, coming together and working together for the same goal to develop novel strategies to be able to ward off the pandemic, should be commended," said Dr. Amar. George W. Contreras, M.E.P., M.P.H., M.S., CEM, FAcEM, assistant director of the Center for Disaster Medicine and assistant professor in the Institute of Public Health, was a keynote speaker for a webinar hosted by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health for more than 800 public health government employees on June 24. He presented lessons learned from New York State and New York City Response to COVID-19 and best practices especially mental health consequences as Ecuador continues to deal with COVID-19 within its borders.

Katharine Yamulla, M.A., CHSE, senior director of competency-based assessment and clinical skills education and director of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center (CSSC), co-developed and moderated a webinar, "Creating Virtual OSCES (Training SPs and Students, Grading, and Support): A Showcase in Flipped Classroom Format" on June 26 for the Director of Clinical Skills Courses (DOCS), a professional organization for medical school faculty who lead pre-clerkship clinical skills courses. The CSSC video "Virtual OSCE Tips that Promote Resilient Practices for Clinical Skills Experiences" was peer-selected for viewing.
