SHSP Welcomes New Vice Dean Benjamin F. Johnson, Ed.D. 

The School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Benjamin F. (Ben) Johnson, Ed.D., as vice dean. He joined the College community on July 1, succeeding Ben Watson, Ph.D. who retired from the position at the end of the 2018-2019 academic year. Dr. Johnson was selected from a national search led by a committee chaired by Susan L. Ronan, P.T., D.P.T., PCS, assistant professor of physical therapy. 

Anthony M. Sozzo, M.S.Ed., M.A., Receives NASFAA Meritorious Achievement Award 

Anthony M. Sozzo, M.S.Ed., M.A., center, associate dean for student affairs and director of student financial planning and student activities, received the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) 2019 Meritorious Achievement Award, presented to an individual who has made either an important single contribution to NASFAA or the profession, or multiple significant contributions. He was honored at the NASFAA National Conference in Orlando, Florida, June 24 - 27, attended by nearly 2,300 student aid professionals from across the country. 

Health Sciences Library Renovations Are Underway 

Renovations are currently underway to transform the upper rear level of the Health Sciences Library (HSL) into a spacious, open and modern study area. The print journal collections have been moved to the lower level compact shelving and the vacant reading room is being readied for construction which will begin this month. The renovated space will include new seating areas, individual nook carrels and standing desks. In addition to increasing the capacity to 50 seats, the end result will be a more modern and spacious reading room. The adjoining study rooms, classroom and computer lab will also be gaining new furniture. 

School of Medicine Hosts Gold Humanism Honor Society Student Clinician Ceremony 

The School of Medicine (SOM) Class of 2021 marked another milestone in the journey to becoming physicians when they participated in the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) Student Clinician Ceremony on June 28, marking the transition to third-year clerkships and the clinical years. The Student Clinician Ceremony was designed by the Gold Foundation to provide guidance, information and support for medical students as they embark on their clinical years and emphasize the importance of providing compassionate, collaborative and scientifically excellent care to patients.
