Camille A. Clare, M.D., M.P.H. '11, center, associate dean of diversity and inclusion for the School of Medicine and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, presented "Roles of Diversity Leaders in Academic Medicine-Challenges and Opportunities" on July 29 at the National Medical Association Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly in Honolulu, Hawaii. Joining Dr. Clare were, from left: Rose Blackburne, M.D., M.B.A., co-chair of the National Medical Association Physician Executive Section; Gary C. Butts, M.D., dean for diversity programs, policy and community affairs, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and chief diversity and inclusion officer for the Mount Sinai Health System; Leon McDougle, M.D., M.P.H., chief diversity officer for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center; and Melissa Moiseberry, M.D., who moderated the session.

Marina K. Holz, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, was selected to serve as the 2019 grant program chair of the LAM Foundation (TLF), the global leader in the fight against lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), through advocacy and the funding of promising research. Last month she led a subcommittee of the TLF Scientific Advisory Board in reviewing 23 new LAM research proposals from 16 research institutions around the world of which 13 proposals were invited forward for full grant submissions and consideration for funding.

Luis F. Riquelme, Ph.D., associate professor of clinical speech-language pathology, was an invited speaker at the First Latin American Congress on Dysphagia, in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 13. He presented "Modified Food Textures: Connecting Evidence to Practice" that included an introduction to the IDDSI Framework (International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative) which he teaches about at NYMC and is implementing at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he serves as director of the Center for Swallowing and Speech-Language Pathology. Dr. Riquelme was also an invited speaker at the Speech-Language Pathology Swearing-In Ceremony on June 5 for the Ana G. Méndez University in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. He spoke about engagement in the profession of speech-language pathology and the responsibility to provide the best services to all patients with communication and/or swallowing disorders.

Michal L. Schwartzman, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Victor Garcia, Ph.D. '15, assistant professor of pharmacology) attended the 2019 American Physiological Society/American Society of Nephrology (APS/ASN) Control of Renal Function in Health and Disease Conference in Charlottesville, Virginia, June 23-27. Dr. Schwartzman served on the organizing committee of the meeting and also served as chair/moderator of the session, "Autacoids and Prostaglandins in Renal Function and Disease." Dr. Garcia was an invited speaker for that session and presented "New role of 20-HETE in renal hemodynamics and hypertension" discussing their recent discoveries surrounding the 20-HETE receptor (GPR75) and new animal models surrounding 20-HETE and GPR75.
