GSBMS Hosts Largest Summer Trainees in Academic Research (STAR) Program To Date

The Willner Lobby of the Medical Education Center and the Basic Sciences Building hallway were overflowing with 35 poster presentations by participants of the Eighth Annual Summer Trainees in Academic Research (STAR) Program, the largest one to date, at the Student Research Forum on August 8. The day was the culmination of a summer of mentored scientific investigations for 75 high school and undergraduate students who also had the opportunity to participate in lectures on current topics in science, discuss and evaluate scientific literature during the STAR Journal Club, develop communication and presentation skills to convey their research and gain valuable feedback from a judging panel made up of students, postdocs and faculty. HSL Unveils New Homepage

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) celebrated the launch of their new website with an afternoon gathering in the Willner Lobby on August 9. HSL users had the opportunity to learn about the new features and improvements including a responsive design for desktop and mobile devices, new drop-down menus and a new single search box through EBSCO Discovery to easily and efficiently search the library's resources. The homepage also displays a new gallery box that allows users to keep up to date with the events and resources in the library. "We hope the NYMC community finds our new web interface both intuitive, highly functional and attractive. It will definitely make access on mobile devices more user friendly. There was once a time when we thought, 'who would use their phone to read journal articles?', but those days are in the past. Electronic access to content all happens through our website, so we need to have it operating well on all platforms and devices," said Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Health Sciences Library.
