Toddlerpalooza Teaches Valuable Lessons in Interprofessional Education

It looked like all fun and games when Toddlerpalooza took over the School of Health Sciences and Practice on July 2. In reality, it was an interprofessional education laboratory experience for second-year speech-language pathology (SLP) students and third-year physical therapy (PT) students, who were tasked with evaluating a group of infants, toddlers and school-aged children who came to visit for the day. They collaborated to evaluate the gross motor, speech and language/cognitive abilities and developmental stages of the children and recommend appropriate activities and exercises for speech-language and gross motor goals for parents and caregivers to perform at home. NYMC Welcomes Student Visitors from Sejong Academy of Science and Arts of South Korea

A group of 60 students from the Sejong Academy of Science and Arts of South Korea got a glimpse of life at New York Medical College when they toured campus on July 13. The high school students, considered to be elite in the math and science field, were on a ten-day tour of the United States that included visits to Princeton University, Yale University, MIT, Harvard University, and Cornell University. The tour, led by Padraic Reynolds, M.P.H. '14, associate dean for academic administration, School of Medicine, included information about NYMC history and stops in the Medical Education Center, the Health Sciences Library, the Radiology Suite, laboratories in the Basic Sciences Building, and a look at the Touro College of Dental Medicine simulation center. The day was capped off with a Q & A session with Dana G. Mordue, Ph.D., interim dean of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences and associate professor of microbiology and immunology.
