2015 NYMC Faculty Authors Lauded
On Tuesday, September 20, the Health Sciences Library hosted the 23rd annual NYMC Faculty Author Celebration, recognizing the collective works of our faculty authors and celebrating the inherent importance and satisfaction of scientific publication.
"A university exists for the generation, conservation, and dissemination of knowledge," said Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officers art NYMC. "Tonight we celebrate the generation of knowledge through research and its dissemination through scientific publication. The word disseminate literally means 'the spreading of seeds.' We have an idea, we pursue that idea, we follow it through, we write it up and we think it's important enough that we want to share it with someone, whether that someone is one person or 100,000. And you never know what happens when you distribute a seed. You never know who reads what you write and gets an idea for their own research or utilizes it for teaching."
What we do know, however, is the quantifiable reach of publications and writings, based on known citations and measurements, and it is upon these statistics that the annual Faculty Author Celebration prizes are awarded.

New York Medical College truly did light it up gold on Thursday, September 22, as members of the College community donned the brilliant color in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September. Other ways to participate include: contributing to the Light It Up Gold poster outside of Doc's Café, to be sent to the children at the Childhood and Adolescent Cancer and Blood Diseases Center; and using the hashtag #NYMCGoesGold to share stories, photos and facts to help spread the word on pediatric cancer.
All contribution proceeds benefit the
Childhood and Adolescent Cancer and Blood Diseases Center.

NYMC Student Clubs Reach Record High
NYMC student clubs reached a record high this year, with 77 continuing clubs and 12 new additions-re-affirming the College's commitment to a well-rounded life and suggesting that today's NYMC students also choose not to live on academics alone.
"Back in the early 1990's," recalls Anthony Sozzo, M.S.Ed., M.A., associate dean for student affairs and director of financial planning and student activities, "there were 20 student clubs. They've multiplied exponentially in the last few decades, reflecting both the diverse interests of our student community as well as the leadership qualities our students possess. It's one thing to have an idea, and quite another to execute it."
