Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., Is Named Interim Chair of the Department of Pathology

Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., clinical professor of pathology, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Pathology, effective September 1. He has also been appointed interim director of the Department of Pathology at Westchester Medical Center (WMC). Dr. Islam has been an active member of the New York Medical College (NYMC) community since 2005, serving as the residency program director for the Department of Pathology, a member of the NYMC Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects Oncology Panel, a member of the Graduate Medical Education Executive Committee, as well as an advisor, educator and mentor to students. Dr. Islam most recently served as chief of anatomic pathology and medical director for hematopathology.

Jennifer Lindelof Starts Second Term as SOM Student Senate President

Jennifer Lindelof is beginning her fourth year of medical school with two unique distinctions: she is New York Medical College's (NYMC) first School of Medicine (SOM) Student Senate president on record to serve two terms, and she was just named Westchester County Business Journal's (WCBJ) 2019 Promise of the Future recipient. The Promise of the Future Award recognizes her superior leadership capabilities and impressive commitment to serving her community and is part of the WCBJ's annual Doctors of Distinction awards which seek to recognize excellence in Westchester medicine.



NYMC Remembers 9/11

On the eighteenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, New York Medical College (NYMC) unveils and dedicates a poster display describing the events of that tragic day and the actions of NYMC's medical students, residents and faculty who answered the call for help at Ground Zero. Dedicated to "all those that died, those who served and those that carry on," the poster is on display in the Medical Education Center hallway.


The Skyline Food Kiosk Is Now Open

Food and drink are now available at the new kiosk on the ground floor lobby of 19 Skyline Drive. Students, staff and visitors can choose from hot and cold beverages, grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, snacks and fresh fruit. The kiosk is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. "We know there was a need for food services in Skyline and I am pleased that we are able to fill that need," said Vilma Bordonaro, M.B.A., chief of staff. "As time goes on, we will see what is working and what is not and we will build our offerings upon that." 

Proceeds from the world premiere of the Rodgers and Hammerstein 1956 film adaptation of Carousel, starring Shirley Jones, were donated to New York Medical College?

Producer Spyros Skouras, president of Twentieth Century Fox, was a trustee of the College and chair of the College's Building and Development Fund.
