“Come and See”: Following the Lamb in Everyday Life

In John 1:29 - 42a, John the Baptist points away from himself and toward Jesus, declaring, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” What follows is beautifully simple. Jesus invites two curious disciples with just three words: “Come and see.” And in that invitation, lives begin to change.

This reading meets us in a week when the secular calendar is also filled with movement and purpose. On January 19, our nation observes MLK Day, reflecting on lives shaped by conviction rather than comfort.

Against that backdrop, John’s Gospel reminds us how God works. Jesus does not begin with grand speeches or sweeping reforms. He calls ordinary people, meets them where they are, and invites them into a relationship. Andrew, having encountered Jesus, cannot help but bring his brother Simon along. Encounter leads to witness; witness leads to calling.

For the Church, this week is a reminder that discipleship still begins the same way. We listen. We point to Christ. We invite others to come and see. And trusting the Lamb who takes away our sin, we follow - into our homes, vocations, and communities - bearing quiet, faithful witness to the One who has already found us.

Deadline for Vicar Applications or Pastoral Candidate

Requesting a Seminary Candidate

To request a candidate from a seminary, first contact your District President. The District President must approve your congregation’s participation in the seminary candidate interview process before the seminaries can work with you.

Once approval is given, please complete the form at the following link: Click here.

After you submit the form:

• It will automatically be emailed to the seminary you select, or to both seminaries if you choose no preference.

• It will also be emailed to your District President based on the district you select.

• You will receive a copy of the submitted form by email.

After reviewing your materials, your District President will send a letter to you and to the appropriate Director(s) of Placement, officially granting permission to interview seminary candidates.

Vicarage Applications

Please contact the district office (925-245-4000) for information regarding vicarage application. (Ask for Glenna, assistant to President Lange.) Before mailing vicarage paperwork, you are encouraged to send a scanned copy for review to prescnh@cnh-lcms.org.

The seminary candidate and vicarage application paperwork for the Seminaries for Spring 2026 is to be received at the CNH District office by Friday, February 20, 2026. The earlier you send the information, the better. District President advocacy for a placement (seminary candidate or vicar) is essential. (Be aware that your request does not guarantee a seminary placement will be made.)
