Hosanna on the Road to the Cross

In John 12:12–19, the crowd lines the road into Jerusalem, waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna!” Jesus enters the city as a king, but not the kind they expect. He rides on a donkey, fulfilling Scripture and signaling a reign marked by humility, peace, and self-giving love. Palm Sunday ushers us into Holy Week, where praise and passion stand side by side, and joy quickly gives way to the hard truth of the cross.

This sacred moment unfolds alongside a secular calendar that also reflects movement and attention. Late March often brings the return of spring sports seasons and community gatherings, while schools and workplaces push toward end-of-quarter goals, and the pace of life moves faster.

Against all of this motion, Palm Sunday asks us to pause and look closely at the King we are welcoming. The crowds wanted victory without sacrifice, glory without suffering. Yet Jesus comes to give exactly what we need, not what we expect. He comes to lay down His life for the world.

As Holy Week begins, the Church walks deliberately with Christ, trusting that this humble King brings a salvation deeper than palms and louder than shouts: a salvation that will soon be sealed by an empty tomb.

Mission Table Podcast 18:
The First Step - Health & Wellness

In this episode, we sit down with Lucas Garrett, PE teacher at St. Peter Lutheran School in Lodi, who believes physical health isn’t just for athletes or students - it’s for people of every age and every stage of life.

Lucas shares simple, practical insights about movement, habits, and why the biggest barrier to better health is often the moment right before we begin. If you’ve ever said, “I should start… someday,” this conversation might be the encouragement you need.

Hawaii Update: Flooding Across the Islands

Over the weekend, unprecedented flooding swept across the Hawaiian Islands, leaving a wide trail of damage to infrastructure, homes, and local businesses. The impact has been far-reaching, affecting multiple regions and setting in motion what will be an extended season of recovery and rebuilding.

We have been in direct communication with our congregations across the islands. While many areas have experienced substantial damage, we are grateful to report that our congregations, schools, and members have not sustained significant personal loss or harm. At this time, there are no immediate requests for assistance. However, the road to recovery will be long for many communities.

We invite you to keep our Hawaii congregations and schools in your prayers—lifting up not only their continued safety, but also the broader communities they serve as rebuilding efforts begin in the days and weeks ahead.
