Living Water for Thirsty Hearts

In John 4:5–26 (27–30, 39–42), Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well - an unlikely place for a life-changing encounter. She comes carrying questions, wounds, and a complicated story. Jesus meets her there with honesty and grace, offering what no well can provide: “living water” that quenches a deeper thirst. He names the truth of her life without shaming her, reveals Himself as the promised Messiah, and sends her as a witness to her own community. Those who once overlooked her now hear the good news through her voice.

This reading unfolds during a week filled with reminders of thirst and awakening in everyday life. March 8 marks the shift to Daylight Saving Time, when light stretches a little longer. Even lighter moments appear, like National Oreo Cookie Day (March 6), small joys that bring people together around shared tables and conversations.

All of it points to the same truth: people are thirsty - for meaning, belonging, and hope. Lent reminds us that only Christ meets that need fully. Like the woman at the well, we are met by Jesus in ordinary places and sent out changed, bearing witness not to ourselves, but to the Savior who knows us completely and still gives Himself for the life of the world.

Upcoming Deadline for LCMS Convention

Preparations for the 2026 convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod continue on as deadlines for overtures and reports pass and nomination processes conclude. More than 300 overtures and hundreds of pages of reports will be reviewed by 10 floor committees. Meanwhile, slates for secretary and board positions are being finalized, and electronic nominations for president and vice-presidents have closed, with results and candidate information to be released soon.

The vote for our Synodical president is an extremely important matter. Time is getting short and there will be no deadline extension. Congregations and parishes must register their pastor and lay presidential voters at https://pvr.lcms.org/ by March 8, 2026. As of March 3, 2026, 31% of congregations/parishes in the CNH District have registered.

CNH Five Two Summit Builds for the Future

The Bay Area CNH FiveTwo Summit was a wonderful reminder of why collaborative leadership matters. Over 20 congregations and 115 leaders gathered in one room on Saturday, February 28, with a shared purpose: to think boldly about the future of ministry and to discern how each congregation can faithfully proclaim the Gospel in its own corner of the world.

The conversations were honest. The ideas were creative. The prayers were sincere.

Our Savior, Aiea, Hosts Spiritual First Aid Workshop

On February 27 and 28, Our Savior, Aiea hosted the first Spiritual First Aid workshop in the CNH District. Pastor Chris Singer from Lutheran Church Charities, and his wife, Jeanette, led the two-day workshop. Thirteen people from Our Savior, Aiea, one from Trinity, Wahiawa and one from Good Shepherd, Honolulu learned Christ-centered skills to bring comfort, emotional support and mental health assistance to individuals and communities impacted by disasters and trauma.
