Second Week of Lent Reflection

This week, we enter the Second Week of Lent, a season of repentance, reflection, and renewal. Mark 8:31-38 reminds us of Jesus’ words: “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” Lent calls us to surrender—to let go of our pride, fears, and self-reliance, and place our full trust in Christ.

Where in our lives do we resist the call to follow Jesus fully? What burdens must we lay at the cross?

As we journey through Lent, may we embrace the path of discipleship with humility and faith, knowing that through Christ’s suffering, we find true life, hope, and salvation. Let us walk forward in obedience, trusting in His redeeming love.

Called to Glory...

As pillars of the faith get called back to their heavenly home, we want to honor and acknowledge the legacy they leave behind and the impact they had within our congregations. If you would like to include any upcoming memorials, please click here to send the name, date of death, and date of service so that we may include them in an upcoming issue of the InTouch.

Rev. Dr. Paul L. Maier (Emeritus) was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Dr. Maier served as campus pastor and professor at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. from 1958 until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his career he also served the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod as chairman of the Commission on Church Literature and member of the LCMS Board for Higher Education. Dr. Maier also served 12 years as an LCMS officer and member of the Praesidium: as third vide-president (2010-13), second vice- president (2004-10), and fourth vice-president (2001-04). You can read his obituary here.

It has pleased our Lord to allow His servant, Dr. Vijayasekaran “Viji” George, to fall asleep in Christ Jesus. Having battled lymphoma with courage and bravery, he now rests from his labors. As a Minister of Religion – Commissioned of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Dr. George served nearly twenty years as a professor of psychology at Concordia College in Bronxville, New York, and served there as Dean of Students and Assistant to the President before serving sixteen years as the college’s President. His energetic and relentless investment in the lives of individuals and families has spoken poignantly and prophetically to many through the years. His funeral was held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville, NY.
