Supporting the Communities Ravaged by Helene
|
We continually pray for the communities that have been devastated by Helene. The Mid-South District's Disaster Response team has been activated. Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT), Faith In Action, has deployed from Faith Lutheran Church in Hopkinsville, KY, under the leadership of Rev. Trae Fistler. To provide a home base that is closer to the impacted areas, Rev. Vincent Shemwell and the congregation of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Johnson City, TN have graciously opened their church to house LERT volunteers as they work in flood-ravaged communities of East Tennessee, and to coordinate supplies.
There are several ways our CNH congregations can help as well!
1) Assemble and Ship Personal Care Kits - these kits contain basic necessities like soap, bandages, toothbrushes, and more. Click here for details on how your congregation can help support this.
2) Monetary Support - You can support relief efforts through gifts to the Mid-South District's Disaster Relief Fund, The SouthEastern District, and the Florida-Georgia District. Click here for details.
3) Prayer - Pray for safety for the victims, strength for the volunteers and first responders, and peace and relief for all of those affected by this tragedy.

Kingdom Wins: Donations Grow Exponentially for Hawaii Foodbank
As part of their quarterly mission project , Our Savior, Aiea, HI (OSHi) chooses four missions to support each year. Pastor Mitch Gowen and DCE Kayla McGowan challenged the congregation and online worshipers: whatever they donated in rice would be matched and given to Hawaii FoodBank. On September 30, the church had gathered a total of 2927 pounds of rice which was delivered to the Foodbank along with a check for $2,219.00!
We are grateful for OSHi's partnership with Hawaii FoodBank and the blessings it provides for the Hawaiian community.

LWML Zone 18 Women's Fall Gathering Recap
On September 28th, 57 women from Zones 2, 3, 8, 16 and 18 came together for the Zone 18 Women's Fall Gathering, “Gifted to Serve by God's Grace” at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Milpitas.
The program opened with a beautiful devotion led by Marla Stein and included songs sung by women from Prince of Peace, Fremont. The Bible study inspired attendees to think about their lives and ways to joyfully serve the Lord regardless of their age and circumstances. LWML President Roxan Schwab shared the latest information on our mission grants, what's happening in our LWML district, and about the LWML Convention in Omaha, NE, on June 26-29, 2025. Two representatives from Teen Challenge Women and Children's Center, San Jose, shared how this Christ-centered recovery program has brought healing and hope to the students (of all ages) in recovery.
Special thanks to Thrivent Financial in for their financial support and to the several volunteers who helped make the day a success. The day was truly blessed by God!
