When the Waves Get Loud

Have you ever noticed how quickly your focus can change? You wake up feeling hopeful, and then a difficult challenge suddenly fills your mind. Before long, the waves seem bigger than Jesus.

That’s Peter’s story in Matthew 14:22–33. At Jesus’ invitation, he climbed out of the boat and walked on water. But when Peter looked at the wind instead of the One who called him, he began to sink. His desperate cry, “Lord, save me!” was met with an immediate response. Jesus reached out His hand and pulled him up.

Isn’t that our story too? We all have moments when fear gets the best of us. The good news is that our hope rests not on the strength of our faith but on the faithfulness of our Savior. Jesus still comes to us through His Word and Sacraments, speaking peace to anxious hearts and holding us fast by His grace.

This week, keep your eyes on Jesus. As you actively reach out or simply listen to someone who is struggling, point them to the One who still reaches into the storms of life. The best news we have to share is that Jesus doesn’t wait for calm seas before He comes to His people. He comes right into the middle of the storm and He never lets go.

VBS in the CNH District:
St. Matthew's, Rocklin

Rainforest Falls 2026 was an unforgettable week of joy, worship, and wild adventure at St. Matthew. They welcomed over 125 children into a week filled with worship, Bible teaching, crafts, bouncy houses galore, and rainforest‑themed adventures. With the help of 76 dedicated volunteers, the church transformed into a wild jungle where every child was reminded that God is our creator, knows everything, is our safe place, is love and is forever.

Every volunteer, every family, and every kid made this week unforgettable as God moved and joy overflowed!

Mission Table Podcast - The Official Podcast of the CNH District

Pull up a chair and join the conversation. The Mission Table is the official podcast of the California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District of the LCMS, where leaders, pastors, and everyday disciples gather to share stories, explore ministry challenges, and celebrate how God is at work across our communities. From church planting to leadership development, outreach to innovation, each episode is a fresh invitation to be part of Christ’s mission—right where you are.

Called to Glory...

As pillars of the faith get called back to their heavenly home, we want to honor and acknowledge the legacy they leave behind and the impact they had within our congregations.
