One Mite to Go - Mites Year Ends March 31

LWML CNH has funded Grant #16, Gospel Outreach in Thailand $3,500 - Lutheran Hour Ministries! Only one grant to go for this year:  #17 - Indonesian Hymnal Project - $5,000, LCMS Office of International Mission, Asia Region.

The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) Office of International Mission and the Indonesian Christian Lutheran Church (GKLI) have been coordinating the development of an explicitly Lutheran service book in Indonesia since October 2017. To date there is no quality service book available in Indonesia, let alone a quality Lutheran service book. The Indonesian Hymnal Project will open rich musical heritage in liturgy and hymns to all Indonesians; train congregations to think, sing, and speak theologically in Indonesian native tongue while strengthening their Gospel Proclamation in their communities; and be a vital tool for parents/grandparents to pass down the faith to their children and grandchildren. Funds from this grant help in publishing the Indonesian Hymnal.

Mites year ends March 31, 2024.

Baptism Party at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Santa Maria

From Pastor Allen Steinbeck, Interim Pastor,LCOS, Santa Maria:

A word going around at Lutheran Church of Our Savior (LCOS), Santa Maria is: “Since the Lord keeps sending us visitors, he must trust that we know what to do with them." It has been our privilege to welcome guests with open arms in the name of Jesus. On Sunday, March 10, LCOS had the joy of celebrating with 9 young children who received the life-giving water and word of Baptism. A number of smaller family units from one extended family joined together at the Font. What a blessing!

The Lord got this Baptism party started more than two decades ago, through the ministry of Pastor Ray Kringel at Grace Lutheran in Santa Maria, just a few miles north of LCOS. At Our Savior, God’s people were tremendously blessed through twenty three years of partnership with the loving and faithful (now retired) Pastor Steve Eckert. What a joy it is for a transitional interim pastor to witness the Lord at work through His people in the lives of their neighbors!

Holy Cross Trip to Cambodia

In February 2024, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Los Gatos sent a team of 7 to Cambodia for a short-term mission trip. Holy Cross helps support the Cimas, who are LCMS missionaries in Phnom Penh, through the Together In Mission program. The purpose of the trip was to do several VBS programs, but also for team members to understand the culture and recent history of Cambodia.

It was a lot of work and very hot, but the trip was well worth the effort. They encourage other churches to reach out to missionaries and see how they might come along side them and their local Christians. It helped to build our faith to see the work that Christians around the world are doing to share God’s love and Word.

An Update on Concordia, Ann Arbor

The Michigan District is heartened by the unanimous decision of the Concordia University Wisconsin Ann Arbor Board of Regents to pause any dramatic changes to Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) in the coming school year. The Board is committed to CUAA remaining open and continuing co-curriculars, athletics, and arts programs in 2024-2025 and prayerfully beyond.

We are glad that they have additionally put in place a way to study the possibility of CUAA again becoming an autonomous university within the Concordia University System (CUS). That will take much study, time, energy, and prayer.
