True Rest in a Busy Nation

As our nation approaches the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, many communities are beginning to reflect on the people, sacrifices, and ideals that have shaped our country’s history. Anniversaries invite us to look back with gratitude and forward with hope.

In Matthew 11:25–30, Jesus offers something that every generation desperately needs: rest. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Those words were spoken nearly 2,000 years ago, yet they remain just as relevant today.

Our nation has accomplished much in 250 years. Yet no amount of progress, freedom, success, or hard work can provide the peace that Christ alone gives. We live in a culture that often encourages us to do more, achieve more, and carry more. Jesus invites us instead to bring our burdens to Him.

As we remember our nation’s past and look toward its future, may we also remember where true hope is found not in ourselves, but in the Savior who promises forgiveness, mercy, and rest for weary souls. In Him, we find a freedom that lasts far longer than any earthly celebration.
