Lenten Reflection

As the calendar marches forward, we find ourselves deep into the season of Lent—a time of reflection, repentance, and preparation for Holy Week. This week’s Gospel reading, Luke 20:9–20, brings us the parable of the wicked tenants, a powerful reminder of the rejection of Jesus and the depth of God’s patience and grace.

In the story, the vineyard owner sends messenger after messenger to the tenants, only to have each one mistreated. Finally, he sends his son—whom they kill. It’s a painful preview of the cross, where the Son of God would also be rejected and crucified.

This passage challenges us to examine how we respond to God’s voice in our own lives. Are we quick to dismiss His call, ignore His Word, or reject the uncomfortable truths He places before us?

Yet even in rejection, God’s love remains relentless. Lent reminds us that though we, like the tenants, may resist His rule, Jesus still comes—to save, forgive, and restore.

CNH District Holds Spring In-Service

On Friday, March 21, 180 educators gathered at Our Savior Lutheran Church & School in Livermore for the annual CNH District Spring In-Service. The in-service was opened with a devotion by Paul Ferguson, CNH District Mission Executive. The main keynote this year was Chris McKenna from Protect Young Eyes speaking on the appropriate time and age for children to use technology and online access, referencing the excellent book on this topic, The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Teachers and administrators then spent the afternoon meeting in grade level breakout groups for discussion and connection.

Exclusive Link to "Already a Song"

The latest release from The Songwriter Initiative (TSI)—a project of Concordia University Irvine’s Center for Worship Leadership—reminds us that, even before we gather for worship and the congregation sings the opening hymn, Christ is already singing over us in His grace, inviting us to join in His eternal song.

“Already A Song,” written by Sam Barnett (Risen Savior Lutheran Church, Chandler, AZ), Elinor Paulison, and Jon Gruen at TSI’s May 2024 songwriting gathering, sets this truth to a congregational song. “Already a Song” was recorded at Farmland Studios in Nashville in February and produced by Kip Fox.

Here is an exclusive pre-release sneak peek of "Already a Song” (now available everywhere).

Sierra Lutheran High School is Building for the Future

Sierra Lutheran High School is in a building phase as they grow their ministry in the Carson City, Nevada, area. They are building two additional wings to their facility. The construction has been blessed by the hard work of many in the school community and is being shepherded by a great project manager, Doug Treganown. The school hopes to have a dedication and grand opening later this spring. Sierra Lutheran High School currently has an enrollment of 165 and with the new facilities will be able to accommodate 250 students.
