The Third Week of Advent is all about joy. In Isaiah 35 we get this amazing picture - the desert bursting with flowers, the weak finding strength, and God’s people coming home with songs of gladness. It’s a glimpse of the life Jesus brings: hope and renewal where there once was only emptiness.

We know this joy isn’t tied to how life is going at the moment. It’s anchored in Christ. In Baptism, He’s already made us part of His Kingdom, and every week He lifts us up through His Word and His Supper, giving strength to weary hearts.

And this joy isn’t just for us to hold onto - it’s meant to be shared. So many around us are weighed down by fear, sin, and despair. This Advent, we get to point them to Jesus, the source of true and lasting joy.

Kingdom Wins: Celebrating New Members at St. Mark, Santa Rosa

Over the past six months, St. Mark's has been blessed with a remarkable group of individuals completing the New Member Orientation. Coordinating a single celebration for all 33 participants proved impossible - schedules conflicted, some preferred not to be publicly recognized, others fell ill, and a few are still discerning whether to take the step into formal membership.

Yet, by God’s grace, 23 of these brothers and sisters publicly joined the St. Mark family across four services right before Thanksgiving. Each came with a unique story, a unique journey of faith, and a desire to be part of the ministry God is shaping here. Ten others continue to walk with us as they prayerfully consider becoming official members.

To Jesus be all glory, laud, and honor!

Celebration for Rev. Marty and Debbie Tyler

Grace Lutheran Church in Crescent City held a celebration on December 7 in honor of Rev. Marty Tyler and his wife Debbie. Pastor Tyler was installed at Grace in March of 2014 and will retire soon. The Divine Service was led by CNH Northern Regional Vice President, Rev. John Standley. After the service, those attending were treated to a pasta bar and salad luncheon. Grace Crescent City is looking forward to their next chapter as they anticipate working with a Vacancy Pastor. Marty and Debbie plan to remain in the Crescent City area where they have family.

Mission Table Podcast (Official Podcast of the CNH District)

Pull up a chair and join the conversation. The Mission Table is the official podcast of the California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District of the LCMS, where leaders, pastors, and everyday disciples gather to share stories, explore ministry challenges, and celebrate how God is at work across our communities.

In Episode 12 of the Mission Table Podcast, we were joined by Pastor Uma, the newly installed pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i. Click here to listen to this audio only episode that tells the story of courage, resilience and how God brings people from the ends of the earth to exactly where they’re needed for such a time as this!
