December 02, 2025

Advent begins with a wake-up call: “The hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11). The Apostle Paul reminds us that Christ’s return is certain, though the day and hour are unknown. As Lutherans, we confess that we live in the “now and not yet” of God’s Kingdom - redeemed in Christ through Word and Sacrament, yet still waiting for the day of His return in glory.

This season is not merely about preparing for Christmas traditions; it is about preparing for Christ Himself. Clothed in His righteousness from Baptism, we put aside the works of darkness and live as children of the light.

And because we are awake, we are sent. Our neighbors live in a world longing for hope. Advent is our time to bear witness - through acts of mercy, words of faith, and invitations to hear the Gospel. Christ has come. Christ is coming again. Until then, we live as His people, on mission.

New Podcast Just Dropped - Mission Table Podcast (Official Podcast of the CNH District)!

Pull up a chair and join the conversation. The Mission Table is the official podcast of the California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District of the LCMS, where leaders, pastors, and everyday disciples gather to share stories, explore ministry challenges, and celebrate how God is at work across our communities.

In Episode 12 of the Mission Table Podcast, we were joined by Pastor Uma, the newly installed pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i. His journey is nothing short of remarkable - born and raised in Sri Lanka in a Hindu family, shaped by years spent as a refugee in Liberia, and ultimately led by the Holy Spirit to faith in Jesus Christ and a call into pastoral ministry here in the United States.

Click here to listen to this audio only episode that tells the story of courage, resilience and how God brings people from the ends of the earth to exactly where they’re needed for such a time as this!
