NYMC Welcomes Robert Lancia, M.A., as Director of Security

Robert Lancia, M.A.has joined the New York Medical College (NYMC) community as director of security, bringing more than 26 years of experience in the law enforcement field. A former police officer for the City of New York and the Town of Ramapo, he has a proven track record in law enforcement, safety and security. Mr. Lancia's experience in leading and inspiring teams of security professionals, project management and risk assessment, will help keep NYMC a safe place to learn and work. NYMC Observes Yom Hashoah, Remembering Those Lost During the Holocaust

Members of the New York Medical College (NYMC) and Touro College and University System community came together to observe Yom Hashoah virtually this year on April 7 with a powerful presentation led by Tessa Chelouche, M.D., a family physician in Israel and scholar of medical history. Dr. Chelouche's presentation, "Hitler and Hippocrates: Medicine during the Third Reich," delved into the role Nazi physicians and the medical community abroad played in the killing of millions of Jews in the Holocaust. NYMC Celebrates National Public Health Week Virtually  
  
New York Medical College (NYMC) celebrated National Public Health Week (NPHW) with a wide-ranging virtual seminar series, April 5 - 8, to fit this year's theme of the American Public Health Association, "Building Bridges to Better Health." The seminars, organized by the Student Healthcare Executives Club (StuHE) and the Department of Public Health in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP), covered a range of topics including air pollution, the role of health departments during health crises, biostatistics and the role of education in population health. NYMC and TCUS Host 11th COVID-19 Symposium

New York Medical College (NYMC) and Touro and College and University System (TCUS) continued the series on COVID-19 with its 11th symposium via a webinar on April 8. Nearly 500 participants registered to learn about the latest updates on COVID-19 including the progress made and the latest concerns. Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer of NYMC and provost for biomedical affairs at TCUS, moderated the program and reflected on the first symposium in January 2020. NYMC Hosts MSCHE Virtual Site Visit

For the last two years the New York Medical College (NYMC) community has been engaged in an extensive College-wide evidence-based process of self-assessment that includes the completion and submission of a comprehensive Self Study to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the accreditation body for the College. NYMC is completing the next step of the MSCHE re-accreditation process with a virtual site visit of the MSCHE peer team evaluators on April 11-14. Read the full article on the MSCHE visit.

Grand Opening of the Skyline Café is Set for April 12

The grand opening of the Skyline Café is set for Monday, April 12. Grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, Starbucks coffee and beverages as well as New York Medical College and Touro College of Dental Medicine merchandise will be available for purchase. The Café, located in the main lobby of 19 Skyline Drive, is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. "We'd like to remind everyone to observe the six-foot physical distancing markers when they visit and we look forward to serving everyone again in a safe environment," said Vilma E. Bordonaro, M.B.A., chief of staff.

Chancellor Halperin Shares his Thoughts on the Medical Ethics and Diversity Act in Arkansas

Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, shared his thoughts on the recent
Medical Ethics and Diversity Act passed in Arkansas which permits providers to refuse to provide or pay for non-emergency care if they feel their "religious, moral, or ethical principles" would be violated in The Hippocratic Oath Stops at the Arkansas Border published in The Globe Post on April 8, 2021.
 
...On April 12, 1860, New York State Governor Edwin D. Morgan signed the bill "An Act to incorporate 'The Homeopathic Medical College of the State of New York, in New York City," marking the birth of the institution that would eventually be known as New York Medical College.
