NYMC Visits Yale's Cushing Center
On April 19, Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, led members of the NYMC community on an educational excursion to The Cushing Center at Yale University School of Medicine. The visit offered a rare, up-close look at one of medicine's most extraordinary archival collections — more than 2,200 case studies encompassing human whole brain specimens, tumor specimens, microscopic slides, handwritten notes, journal excerpts, and upwards of 15,000 photographic negatives spanning the late 1800s through 1936. Throughout the visit, attendees gained an intimate appreciation for the remarkable legacy of Harvey Cushing — pioneering surgeon, accomplished author, devoted collector, and passionate bibliophile. The outing wrapped up with a walking tour of the Yale campus, personally guided by Dr. Halperin, Yale School of Medicine Class of 1979 alumnus.

TCDM New Mexico is On-air
Professionally produced commercials began running on the Albuquerque CBS affiliate station KRQE promoting the general dental and pediatric practice. The commercials air during the morning and evening news, as well as on Saturday morning. The commercials each feature a student and a faculty member, as well as a pediatric patient. The promotion is part of a larger effort to increase awareness about TCDM and the clinic in Albuquerque as they get set to welcome the next class of future dentists to the campus this summer.

Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, was elected president-elect of the Medical Library Association. She will begin her term as president after the annual meeting next May.
| | National Library Week is April 20 - 24. Celebrate with the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library. The library at NYMC first opened in 1885 when the New York Homeopathic Medical College was at Flower Hospital. In 1925, the name changed to the Prentiss Library and then, in the 1950s, it was renamed the Hetrick Library. The library's name transitioned to the Health Sciences Library after 1972, when NYMC moved to Westchester and merged its library collection with the former Westchester Academy of Medicine Library. The Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, as we know it today, was officially given its name in 2022. Throughout the reiterations of its name, the library has continued to serve the research and study needs of the NYMC community. You are encouraged to reach out to a librarian in person or Ask-A-Librarian on the website. | | |
