Celebrating NYMC and Metropolitan Hospital
This year marks two milestone anniversaries: the 165th anniversary of NYMC, and the 150th anniversary of NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. These two institutions have been affiliated since the founding of Metropolitan in 1875, making the affiliation between NYMC and Metropolitan the longest affiliation between a medical school and a municipal public hospital in American medicine.

New Speech-Language Pathology Students Begin Their Academic Journey
The Division of Speech-Language Pathology welcomed 30 students to its Fall 2026 cohort on August 11. The orientation day featured insightful presentations and opportunities for students to connect with their new peers. The cohort begins their academic journey with the start of classes and boot camp.

Historical Hahnemann Hospital Clock Adorns Sunshine Cottage Lobby
Visitors to the lobby of Sunshine Cottage are greeted by an antique Tiffany & Co. grandfather clock whose inscription records its presentation to the Hahnemann Hospital in 1906 in memory of Francis E. Doughty, M.D. (1849 – 1906). Still in working condition, this clock has stood tall for nearly 120 years as a memorial to Dr. Doughty, one of the founders of what is now the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYMC.

Psoriasis and Cardiovascular Disease Link Not Clearly Recognized by Patients
Patients with poorly controlled moderate to severe psoriasis are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease, yet the link is often underrecognized and undertreated, according to a study conducted by Michelle Sikora, SOM Class of 2025.

The NYMC student-run Association for Size-Inclusive Healthcare has launched the Journal for Size-Inclusive Healthcare, a publication dedicated to exploring size-inclusive care not only through data and research, but also by sharing patients’ personal experiences and their relationships with physicians.

Esther L. Sabban, Ph.D., the Sidney E. Frank Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, participated in the Military Health Systems Research Symposium (MHSRS-2025), in Orlando, Florida, August 4 – 7. She presented “Revisited: Intranasal Neuropeptide Y and Selective Agonists for Traumatic Stress Triggered Disorders” in the breakout session, Innovation and Current Directions in Military Suicide Prevention, Research, and Programs.
