Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology Hosts Inaugural Research Symposium

The Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology hosted its first Research Symposium on December 8. The day-long symposium featured oral presentations and poster presentations by students, residents and trainees on a range of topics, including peanut allergies, traumatic stress, thyroid cancer and the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in ticks. StuHe Hosts Career Networking and Mock Interview Event

The SHSP Student Healthcare Executives (StuHe), a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), hosted their Fall Career Networking and Mock Interview Event on November 29. The event took place remotely with a command center on campus to coordinate the activities. NYMC Examines Disparate Access to Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment for Low-Income Communities

Barriers to breast cancer screening remain despite Medicaid expansion for preventive screening tests and implementation of patient navigation programs under the Affordable Care Act, with women from underserved communities experiencing disproportionately low rates of screening mammography, according to a study that was conducted by NYMC SOM faculty and students and recently published in BMC Women’s Health. NYMC and TU Present 23rd COVID-19 Symposium

The latest symposium in the COVID-19 webinar series, “What Have We Learned? How Can We Use What We Have Learned?” continued to educate on the latest information on COVID-19 on December 8. Sponsored by NYMC and TU, the webinar covered COVID-19 infection, vaccines and boosters while breastfeeding; the increase in opiate-related deaths during the pandemic; vaccine hesitancy in minority communities; the long-term impact of the pandemic on the pharmaceutical industry; and a panel discussion by three county health commissioners. Marina K. Holz, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, professor of cell biology and anatomy, and interim chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, chaired a mini-symposium session, “Metabolism at the Lysosomes and Mitochondria” at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cell Biology on December 4 in Washington, D.C.

Regina Williams, SHRM-SCP, director of human resources, presented a virtual workshop on professional development on December 6 as part of the New York State Public Health Association Inclusive Communication and Professional Development 2022 fall workshop series.
