New Skyline Auditorium Opens with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
NYMC, TCDM, and TU leadership celebrated the official opening of the new Skyline Auditorium on December 11. The event included a ceremonial ribbon cutting, marking the launch of this state-of-the-art space, which seats 225 people—an increase of 50. Designed with modern convenience in mind, the auditorium features two outlets for every seat. Attendees were also treated to guided tours of the newly unveiled nine-chair Orthodontics Clinic and Student Affairs Suite, showcasing Touro's continued investment in cutting-edge facilities that support both student success and patient care.

Illuminating Discovery Symposium Showcases Cutting-Edge Innovations in Biomedical Imaging
NYMC was filled with scientific curiosity and collaboration as the Illuminating Discovery Symposium brought together leading minds in biomedical imaging at 7 Dana Road on December 9. Researchers, students, postdocs, professors, and professionals from NYMC, Touro-affiliated institutions, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and beyond gathered for a day of groundbreaking presentations and discussions. The event was organized by Jonathan Fisher, Ph.D., left, associate professor of physiology, and Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., vice president for research and professor of pharmacology and of pathology, microbiology and immunology, and senior vice president for research affairs at Touro University, with co-chairs Christopher S. Leonard, Ph.D., right, professor and interim chair of the Department of Physiology, and Julie S. Di Martino, Ph.D., assistant professor of cell biology and anatomy. The keynote address was delivered by Sarah Eskreis-Winkler, M.D., Ph.D., a radiologist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with her presentation titled, “Breast Imaging and the Artificial Intelligence Revolution in Medical Diagnostics.” Presentation topics included preclinical optical imaging, clinical neuroimaging, dental imaging and high-resolution CT, and advances in functional anatomical clinical imaging.

NYMC and TU Hosts “Ninety Minutes: The Medical Magazine of the Web”
On December 12, NYMC and TU hosted the 31st symposium of Ninety Minutes: The Medical Magazine of the Web, sparking a lively discussion on the efficacy of common medical practices. A distinguished panel of experts explored thought-provoking topics, including the merits of hospital vs. home births, the necessity of newborn checkups before discharge, and whether annual chest X-rays, EKGs, or multivitamins are as beneficial as they seem. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly during a dynamic Q and A session, rounding out an afternoon of insightful discussions.

Anish R. Maskey, Ph.D. ’23, post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, was an invited speaker at the 5th International Conference on Global Advanced Nursing and Healthcare December 7-8, organized by Sciencezo Planet. He gave a virtual presentation, "Berberine Inhibits the Inflammatory Response Induced by Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Atopic Eczema Patients via the TNF-α/Inflammation/RAGE Pathways."
