NYMC Welcomes Wellness Ambassadors for the Academic Year
The Wellness Ambassador program has expanded to include 41 students, with 26 new members, who are dedicated to supporting mental health and well-being on campus. Wellness Ambassadors work with the Office of Student Mental Health and Wellness (SMHW) and act as an extension of the department by disseminating information and elevating the importance of mental health and well-being in our community. They also act as a "mental health mentor” to their peers by normalizing conversations about mental health and play a critical role in early identification of needs and bridge to the office when needed. Wellness Ambassadors, because of the training they received, uniquely understand the scope and role of the Office of SMHW and can identify early signs of distress, making that identification earlier and effectively facilitating a needed referral. They can also share their own experiences and support their peers who likely are experiencing similar situations. Through their dedication and training, Wellness Ambassadors are making a significant impact on campus, fostering a culture of openness, support, and early intervention to promote the well-being of all students.
