27th Annual Faculty Author Recognition Celebrates Faculty Scholarly Works
The Health Sciences Library hosted the 27th Annual Faculty Author Celebration virtually on December 17. New York Medical College leadership, awards presenters and award winners shared their thoughts on the scholarly publications published during the 2019 calendar year via video greetings. "2020 has indeed been an interesting year, not just for the way we gather, but in publishing in general including the cosmic rise of the preprint archive," said Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Health Sciences Library, in her welcoming remarks. The 2019 Bibliography of Faculty Publications covered 399 faculty authors; 616 journal articles; 3 authored books; 6 edited books; 72 book chapters and 119 journal editors. NYMC Shares the Latest on the COVID-19 Vaccine
Just two days after the first person in the United States received the COVID-19 vaccine, 100 members of the New York Medical College (NYMC) community tuned into a webinar on COVID-19 vaccines co-sponsored by the Center for Disaster Medicine and the Department of Public Health in the School of Health Sciences and Practice. Kathleen DiCaprio, Ph.D., assistant professor of medical microbiology and immunology, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, a popular presenter in the NYMC/Touro COVID-19 symposium series, presented the latest on the top four vaccine candidates. Dr. DiCaprio covered the differences between MRNA and viral vector vaccines, Emergency Use Authorization, vaccine storage and distribution and other common questions she routinely receives before the audience had the opportunity to ask their own questions. Department of Surgery Hosts 17th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Research Day
The 17th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Research Day featuring keynote speaker Julie Ann Sosa, M.D., M.A., FACS, MAMSE, FSSO, was presented virtually on December 16. Dr. Sosa, the Leon Goldman M.D., Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and professor in the Department of Medicine and affiliated faculty for the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF, is an endocrine surgeon who specializes in thyroid cancer. She presented "Asking the Right Questions: How Research Can Impact Practice." Colin Ahyoung Is Named Director of Restricted Funds and Grants Management
In his new role as director of restricted funds and grants management, Colin Ahyoung is responsible for overseeing the financial administration of grants to ensure revenues and expenditures are properly reviewed, documented and reported to comply with the requirements of the funding body, current legislation and generally accepted accounting principles, effective December 28, 2020. Mr. Ahyoung will manage the restricted funds and grants accounting team and work closely with the Office of Research Administration, researchers and administration to ensure compliance with internal and external policy and procedures, regulations and contract restrictions. He will report to Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., vice president for research, New York Medical College (NYMC), and senior vice president for research affairs, Touro College and University System, and Irene Crasto-Bolin, C.P.A., controller.
