NYMC Unveils 2021-2026 Strategic Plan 

After a year-long community-wide planning process, New York Medical College (NYMC) has unveiled its 2021-2026 Strategic Plan, including revised mission, vision and values statements. Designed to meet the College's challenges and exciting opportunities, this forward-looking plan will serve as a roadmap to guide NYMC into the next era of growth. Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., Appointed Chair to Lead Newly Combined Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology Departments

Humayun Islam, M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed chair of the newly combined Departments of Pathology and of Microbiology and Immunology at New York Medical College (NYMC). Dr. Islam has served as interim chair of the Department of Pathology since 2019. He joined NYMC in 2002 and currently holds a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine (SOM) as clinical professor of pathology and clinical associate professor of medicine. Dr. Islam is also a member of the faculty of the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS). He serves as vice director of pathology, chief of anatomic pathology, director of hematopathology and director of the pathology residency program at Westchester Medical Center (WMC), one of NYMC's major clinical affiliated sites. Amy Razukiewicz, M.P.H., CPH, RBP, is Named Director of Environmental Health and Safety 

Maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty and staff is paramount for Amy Razukiewicz, M.P.H., CPH, RBP, director of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. She is responsible for the overall management and continuous improvement of energy, health, safety and environmental programs and policies for New York Medical College (NYMC). She acts as NYMC's institutional radiation safety officer, the responsible official for NYMC's Tier 1 Biological Select Agents and Toxin (BSAT) program and provides oversight for the Biosafety Level-3 laboratory program. Center for Disaster Medicine Offers Free On-Demand Webinar, "The COVID-19 Vaccine: What to Tell Your Patients"

The Center for Disaster Medicine is offering a free on-demand webinar, "The COVID-19 Vaccine: What to Tell Your Patients," for health care professionals. The webinar featuring speakers Robert Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs, and Kathleen DiCaprio, Ph.D., assistant professor of medical microbiology and immunology at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, covers the facts about the vaccines, mechanisms of action, approval and common reasons for vaccine avoidance with strategies to overcome them. Continuing Medical Education credit is available. Register for "The COVID-19 Vaccine: What to Tell Your Patients."

...February 3 is National Women Physicians Day. This year marks the 200th birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell, M.D.,(February 3, 1821 - May 31, 1910), the first woman to obtain a medical degree in the United States in 1849.
