TCDM and NYMC Students Volunteer at Guidance Center of Westchester
TCDM and NYMC students had the opportunity to present to participants from diverse backgrounds at the Guidance Center of Westchester in Mount Vernon, New York. The Guidance Center serves individuals facing mental illness, substance use disorders, poverty, and homelessness, through education, treatment, housing, and vocational services. Medical students spoke about the importance of mental and physical health, while dental students highlighted the critical connection between oral health and overall systemic health. Beyond benefiting participants, it provided the future clinicians with the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, build empathy, and better understand communities they will serve.

Ralph Torres Keeps Campus Operations Flying High
Ralph Torres, facility maintenance mechanic, helps ensure that NYMC’s campus operates safely, efficiently, and reliably each day. As part of a skilled team of technicians, he supports building operations across campus—diagnosing and resolving maintenance and safety concerns, conducting routine walkthroughs, and addressing operational issues before they become larger problems. Outside of work, Torres has cultivated a lifelong passion for aviation and dance.

Soe Soe Aye Htun, Dr.P.H. candidate in health policy and management, has recently been accepted as a member of the New York State Public Health Association's (NYSPHA) Policy and Advocacy Committee (PAC). The PAC focuses on health policy and strives to make New York State the healthiest state in the country. NYSPHA's policy and advocacy agenda is developed and led by the PAC.
