CDM Strengthens Emergency Response Skills Through TECC and RTF Courses
The Center for Disaster Medicine conducted three days of training for first responders from throughout the Hudson Valley. The Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course teaches first responders how to treat trauma victims under austere conditions. The Center’s Rescue Task Force (RTF) course teaches first responders how to operate as a team of law enforcement officers and pre-hospital care providers. Utilizing the concepts and principles of TECC and RTF, these students learned basic bleeding control, airway management, and victim evacuation techniques.

TCDM Celebrates Match Day Success
TCDM marked Match Day on January 21, with students securing placements in specialty programs and general practice residencies across the country, including Florida, Massachusetts, Connecticut, California, Illinois and more, with residency sponsors such as Stony Brook University, New York University, and the Veterans Administration. TCDM reported an initial 88 percent match rate for non-specialty programs—a three percent increase from last year—and increasing to 100 percent post-match rate for anyone who chose to be matched. TCDM’s acceptance to specialty post-graduation programs is significantly higher than the national average. This is the seventh year that the school has participated in the matching program and graduates have been repeatedly accepted in prestigious residencies.

Ashley Ruszczyk, M.S., associate director of student financial planning, was recognized as a rising leader at the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA) Leadership Summit on February 3–4, in Manchester, New Hampshire. She currently serves as the chair of the EASFAA Financial Wellness Training Sub-Committee, which organizes virtual trainings for EASFAA financial aid professionals.

Central to the discussion will be the ethical implications of such legislation and the critical guardrails necessary to ensure responsible and equitable implementation.
