Seventeenth COVID-19 Symposium Set

On January 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 pm., a panel of experts will discuss the difference between various types of masks; new guidelines for isolation and quarantining; continuing racial disparities in vaccine rates; parenting during the ever-changing school systems in the pandemic; and the future of the commercial real estate market in the current and post-pandemic worlds. Supriya Jain, M.D., Leads Multicenter Study of Myocarditis in Teenagers after COVID-19 Vaccination

Supriya Jain, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics and of radiology and clinical education liaison at NYMC, recently led a national multicenter study of myocarditis, an inflammation of heart muscle, following COVID-19 vaccination in teenagers. In the study, published in Pediatrics, cardiac imaging data were collected from hospitals from across the United States to help characterize myocarditis in adolescents after COVID-19 vaccination and understand its impact. Chancellor Halperin Shares His Thoughts on Ohio’s New Anti-Abortion Law Impeding Academic Freedom

Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, shared his thoughts on the recently signed anti-abortion bill in Ohio which prohibits clinics from retaining physicians who teach at a state medical school in an opinion piece, “Ohio’s new anti-abortion law is also an attack on academic freedom,” published in Times Higher Education on January 24, 2022.


Adiya Katseff, GSBMS Class of 2024, Expands Her Career Options with the Integrated Ph.D. Program

Adiya S. Katseff, a student in the Integrated Ph.D. Program (IPP) in the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS), wanted more out of her career for her own personal fulfillment and the ability to achieve more. She enrolled in NYMC to do just that and is currently on her way to earn her Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology. Read the full Q&A on Ms. Katseff.

The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program in the School of Health Sciences and Practice is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The M.P.H. was the first advanced degree approved by the Regents of the State of New York at the school which was known as the Graduate School of Health Sciences at the time.
