26th Annual MSRF to Take Place Virtually February 3 | The 26th Annual Medical Student Research Forum (MSRF) will be conducted virtually this year on Thursday, February 3, with a keynote address by Fawaz Al-Mufti, M.D., associate chair of neurology for research, associate professor of neurology, neurosurgery and radiology, and assistant dean for GME research, NYMC. Dr. Al-Mufti will present "The Gift of Adversity: Lessons learned from the Phoenix (Dactylifera).” The forum is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., beginning with student presentations followed by Dr. Al-Mufti’s presentation at 4:15 p.m. View the MSRF on Zoom. | | |
NYMC and TCUS Host 17th COVID-19 Symposium | The 17th COVID-19 Symposium hosted by NYMC and TCUS on January 26, featured NYMC and TCUS faculty who broke down recent changes to federal quarantine and isolation guidelines, mask guidance, racial disparities in vaccination rates, parents’ struggles with the pandemic’s impact on schools and the commercial real estate market in the pandemic. Sima Vazquez, SOM Class of 2024, Faces Adversity with Positivity | Sima Vazquez, SOM Class of 2024, is no stranger to adversity. Diagnosed as a child with a Chiari malformation, a rare condition in which brain tissue extends into the spinal canal, Ms. Vazquez underwent two surgeries by the time she was 14 years old. Despite the surgeries, she adopted a positive attitude to excel at whatever she puts her mind to, whether it’s her hobbies or her pursuit of a medical degree, with the eventual goal of being a neurosurgeon. Meghan Work, M.P.H., Ph.D., Brings Years of Epidemiology Experience to the SHSP | Meghan Work, M.P.H., Ph.D., knew epidemiology was the field for her from the moment she took her first course on it. Now, after nearly a decade in the pharmaceutical industry as a cancer epidemiologist, she is set to embark on her long-awaited opportunity as a full-time faculty member as an assistant professor of public health in NYMC's SHSP Department of Public Health.
