Roger Chirurgi, M.D., FACEP, Changes Uniforms, Never the Mission


Roger Chirurgi, M.D., FACEP, chair and associate professor of the Department of Emergency Medicine, has spent his life changing uniforms, but never his mission. From serving as a police officer and firefighter to caring for patients as an emergency physician, educator, and mentor, service has remained the constant thread throughout his career.

ACCOLADES

Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., right, vice president for government affairs, was honored at the Westchester County Medical Society/Westchester Academy of Medicine, annual meeting on June 23, at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York. He was presented with the Career Achievement Award. Dr. Amler is pictured with Ronald I. Jacobson, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics and chief of pediatric neurology at WMC Health.




Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., was a participant in the webinar, “Hate in Healthcare? Antisemitism in the Health Profession and Ways to Counter It,” hosted by the Anti-Defamation League Westchester on June 23. The webinar covered the history of antisemitism in medical schools, current concerns across the medical profession, and what can be done about it. 


Ainsley Rossi, D.P.T., PT, OCS, assistant professor of physical therapy, was selected through a competitive application process to serve as a test question writer for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE). Over the course of four months, Dr. Rossi completed specialized training in writing board-style exam questions, which were submitted to a proctor for consideration on future NPTE’s.

The SOM Office of Admissions is seeking interviewers for the Multiple Mini-Interview (MMI) 2026-27 interview season. The interview cycle runs from September through March and interviews are conducted on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday starting at noon.
