The NYMC Golf Tournament and Reception at the Saint Andrew's Golf Club sponsored by the NYMC Board of Advisors on June 15, will honor Patricia A. White M.D., member of the NYMC Board of Advisors, and Daniel Zelazny, M.D., assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and house advisory dean at NYMC, orthopedic surgeon at Westchester Medical Center, and team physician at Marist University. Funds raised through the event support scholarships and other mission-driven initiatives.

NYMC Announces 2026-2027 Translational Science Initiative Recipients
NYMC recognizes the 2026–2027 recipients of research funding through the Translational Science Initiative (TSI). Launched last year, the TSI supports collaboration among faculty researchers at NYMC and Westchester Medical Center, bringing together basic and clinical investigators to address critical questions in drug development, clinical care, and disease management.

Suicidality Is Key Predictor of Treatment-Resistant Focal Epilepsy
Affecting 65 million people worldwide, epilepsy has long been associated with co-occurring mental health conditions. Now, a new study published in JAMA Neurology, by a team of researchers, including Manisha Holmes, M.D., associate professor of neurology, has found that patients with newly diagnosed focal epilepsy who experience suicidality—the spectrum of suicidal thoughts, plans, and behaviors—are more than twice as likely to develop treatment-resistant epilepsy than those without mental health conditions.

TCDM Celebrates Class of 2026 Commencement
Graduating students of the TCDM’s Class of 2026 celebrated the end of one journey and the beginning of another at Purchase College on May 18. Many graduates will spend the next year in residencies in specialties including general practice, pediatric dentistry, and oral surgery. The class achieved a 100 percent residency match rate. The ceremony also marked the first decade of TCDM, which when it opened in 2016, and was the first new dental school in New York in more than 50 years.

Toni Manougian, M.D., M.B.A., assistant professor of anesthesiology, is an invited member of the Time-Controlled Adaptive Ventilation (TCAV) Consortium, an international, multidisciplinary group of clinicians and researchers working to define the clinical protocol for TCAV. The group recently published expert recommendations for its use. Dr. Manougian was also an invited to speaker at Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA) annual meeting in Montreal, May 1 – 3. She was a panelist on “Demystifying APRV: Historical Roots, Modern Advancements, and Strategies for Optimal ICU Outcomes,” along with M. Christine Stock, M.D., co-creator of Airway Pressure Release Ventilation (APRV) — the foundation from which TCAV evolved. She also presented, “Advancing APRV: From Early Iterations to Time-Controlled Adaptive Ventilation,” sharing the historical background and experience with TCAV at Westchester Medical Center.
