Celebrating a legacy of vision, service, and community, NYMC is proud to honor Jonathan Sheindlin, M.D. ’93, managing partner, The Bronx Eye Center; assistant professor of ophthalmology, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Montefiore Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine Member, and member of the NYMC Board of Advisors, with the Distinguished Alumni Award, and John Morningstar, senior vice president of investments at Stifel, with the Corporate Partnership Award at the 2025 Golf Tournament and Reception on Monday, June 23, at The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.

15th Annual Paul K. Woolf, M.D., Pediatric Trainee Research Day Spotlights Outstanding Research
Hosted by the Department of Pediatrics at NYMC, Children’s Health and Research Foundation, Inc., and Boston Children’s Health Physicians, this year’s Pediatric Trainee Research Day highlighted outstanding basic, clinical, quality, and translational research. The session was chaired by Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., fourth from left, professor of pediatrics, cell biology and anatomy, medicine, and of pathology, microbiology, and immunology, and vice chair of pediatrics.The day began with grand rounds oral presentations on June 11. Morgan Crannage Anderson, left, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Microbiology, received an honorable mention for translational research; Shaimma AbdAllah M.D., Ph.D., second from left, a fellow in pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT, received the award for Best Basic Research, Mary Ann Lim M.D., third from left, a fellow neonatology, who received the award for Best Clinical Research, Brianna Cocuzza M.D., fourth from right, a fellow in general pediatrics, received the award for Best Quality Research, Shiori Eguchi M.D., third from right, a fellow in pediatric hematology/oncology/BMT, received the award for Best Translational Research. The event concluded with a virtual poster session, where honorable mention presenters shared their work and engaged in discussion.

A team of NYMC researchers, including Maria Rosa Velasquez, M.D.,FACP, assistant professor of medicine and lead author on the study, has identified and characterized a novel strain of Treponema pallidum, the bacterium that causes syphilis.

TCDM celebrated its alumni at the annual Alumni Reunion on June 8, highlighting the inaugural Class of 2020. The day was filled with fun, education, and a tour of all the new and updated spaces at TCDM. From the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library: The Culinary Medicine Cookbook is now available at the library. (Click on NYMC Access.) It is a collaboration between students and faculty from the Culinary Medicine Interest Group, the SOM Culinary Medicine Area of Concentration program and Westchester Medical Center. This mouth-watering collection of nutritious recipes is organized by the medical condition which each dish targets for therapeutic management, treatment, and prevention. A selection of these recipes is on display in the Art Meets Science Exhibit at the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Main Library.
