NYMC Set to Host Golf Tournament and Reception
The NYMC community is invited to gather and hit the links at Saint Andrew's Golf Course, in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, on Monday, June 26. The third annual event begins with a shotgun start on the 18-hole golf course designed by golf course architects William H. Tucker and Harry Talmadge. This year’s event will honor Steven Lansman, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Surgery at NYMC and Rubén A. Medina, M.B.A., M.P.H., founder of RC Solutions, Inc. and member of the NYMC Board of Advisors, at a reception following the tournament. Martin Katzenstein, M.D. '78, assistant dean for clinical affiliations, associate professor of pediatrics and chair of the Board of Advisors, serves as chair for the third annual golf outing. SOM Health and Justice Elective Gets a Hand from 16-year-old CEO
From donating toys to children’s hospitals at nine years old to being named a Westchester Magazine Wunderkind at the age of 16, Jonah Bassuk, an eleventh grader at Blind Brook High School in Rye, New York, and his team of young professionals at Strong Heroes, Inc., are dedicated to improving health equity through education, research, policy and community engagement for underresourced communities. This includes Bassuk’s collaboration with NYMC's Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program with Westchester County Jail, part of the School of Medicine health and justice elective which provides opportunities for students to expand and consider their theoretical and practical understanding about the complex social, political and health-related topics within the carceral system. June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month. Firearms are now the leading cause of traumatic death in the United States in both youth and adults, surpassing motor vehicle crashes, according to a study published by NYMC faculty researchers, in Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open. Between 2009 and 2018, firearms cost Americans 12.6 million years of potential life lost, with most firearm deaths attributable to suicides. The TU Libraries, in collaboration with the TU Office of the Provost, is pleased to announce the 2023 Touro University Open Educational Resources (OER) Faculty Fellowship. This fellowship is intended to support faculty to develop OER for use in their courses. All full-time faculty, across all TU departments and campuses, with anticipated teaching responsibilities for the 2023-2024 academic year are eligible to apply.
