Students, Staff, and Faculty Pet Their Stress Away

Merrie, the friendly 12-year-old golden retriever therapy dog from the Hudson Valley Paws for a Cause, graced the presence of students, staff, and faculty in the MEC to give a much-needed de-stress session at the Pet the Stress Away event on March 14. Hosted by the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library and Office of Student Mental Health and Wellness in the MEC Lobby, attendees enjoy a few sweet treats before cuddling the canine. "We appreciated being able to partner with our incredible library team, specifically Caroline McKinley (second from right) to bring pet therapy to campus for a second time this year," said Robin Hershkowitz, M.S.W., LCSW-R, second from left, senior director of SMHW and clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. "This is one of the most frequently requested events and is always well received by students. Interacting with dogs is calming, reduces anxiety, and improves one's overall psychological state.It was wonderful to watch students experience all of these benefits."

LCME Element of the Week 

In preparation for the SOM's April 2024 LCME accreditation visit, in the upcoming weeks, we will be featuring the most-cited elements, based on recent data from the LCME and how this is addressed at NYMC. This week's element is Curricular Management.
