The 33rd Annual Graduate Student Research Forum (GSRF) returned to an in-person format, as a magnificent collection of research conducted by students in the GSBMS was presented in front of their peers, faculty and alumni. NYMC and TU Will Present Symposium on COVID-19 as of March 22, 2022
The 18th COVID-19 Symposium in the series sponsored by NYMC and Touro University (TU) will take place on Tuesday, March 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The webinar will cover the latest on COVID-19 found in animals and what is means for virus mutations in humans; the administration of a fourth dose of vaccine; headaches as a symptom and as a long-term effect of prior infection; vaccination of children under five years of age; pandemics as the impetus for anti-Semitism; the rise in opiate-related deaths during the pandemic; and the authority of government to mandate masks in public schools. Bench-to-Bedside Series Highlights New Affiliation with Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute
A webinar, “New Horizons, Touro University and Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute,” in the Bench-to-Bedside series on March 16, shared information on the new affiliation with the Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI), which will encourage academic and research collaboration. LBRI is a 75-year-old non-profit biomedical research organization located on three campuses in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The institution is home to researchers with specialties in respiratory disease, basic and applied neuroscience with special emphasis on the use of machine learning with medical imaging to define bio markers of human behavioral disease, gene therapy, toxicology cell therapy, and other drug development paradigms and epigenetics. James-Tyler Dodge, D.P.T. Class of 2022, has his Sight Set on Working as a Sports Physical Therapist
James-Tyler Dodge, a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) student in the School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP), had aspirations of attending physical therapy school but had to overcome academic challenges early on in his undergraduate studies. After hitting his stride and using his passion for the field as motivation, Mr. Dodge is now on pace to earning his D.P.T. in May. Read the full Q&A with Mr. Dodge.

Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.Phil., CHES, professor of public health and global health director, was named one of five non-government advisers to the U.S. delegation to the 66th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) taking place March 14 – 25. The priority theme of CSW66 is, “Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of All Women and Girls in the Context of Climate Change, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction Policies and Programs,” while the review theme is “Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work.” The role of women in the global COVID-19 response and recovery efforts will also be featured.
