NYMC Administers COVID-19 Vaccine and Gives a Shot of Hope

After months of preparation and anticipation, a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines arrived on the New York Medical College (NYMC) campus and were distributed to more than 200 individuals on March 24 and 25. The NYMC Family Health Center was among the first approximately 50 medical practices across seven counties in the Hudson Valley to receive vaccines. Students, faculty and staff, from NYMC and the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) who were eligible to receive the vaccine according to New York State guidelines, were given the first dose of the Moderna vaccine at a special vaccine clinic set up at 19 Skyline Drive. March 30 is National Doctors Day to honor physicians for their dedication and leadership. The date was selected to mark the anniversary of the first use of ether anesthetic for surgery administered by Crawford W. Long, M.D., on March 30, 1842. A red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.
