Academic Excellence Recognized During Alpha Omega Alpha Iota Chapter 2023 Induction Ceremony

SOM students, residents, faculty and alumni gathered in Skyline Dining Room on April 25 to be recognized for their academic excellence through induction into the AOA, the national medical honor society. An annual tradition at the College since 1957, this year marked the 67^th induction ceremony by the NYMC Iota Chapter of AOA. Holly J. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety Welcomes New Director

Department of Physical Therapy Hosts 19th Annual Doctoral Project Presentation Day

For the first time since 2019, the Department of Physical Therapy at NYMC hosted its annual doctoral project presentation day in person. Forty-two students, split into nine different groups, presented their research in various areas concerning the field of physical therapy, ranging from the impact of line dancing on cogitative function, to teaching cultural competence in the physical therapy curriculum. NYMC Hosts Ninth Annual Drs. Gabor and Harriette Kaley Endowed Lecture

The Ninth Annual Drs. Gabor and Harriette Kaley Endowed Lecture was presented in the Cooke Auditorium on April 24 with keynote speaker Anna Csiszar, M.D., Ph.D., (fifth from left), professor of the Department of Neurosurgery and Donald W. Reynolds Chair in Aging Research at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, who presented “Age-related Vascular Cognitive Impairment: Role of Endothelial Senescence.” Her lecture combined vascular physiology and neuroscience to identify the part cellular senescence plays in vasodilator function. GSBMS Grad Aspires to Treat Neurodegenerative Diseases  

Elizabeth A. Berry, who recently defended her Ph.D. in the Department of Cell Biology in the GSBMS, Class of 2023, is addressing her class at commencement on Monday, May 22. She participated in various research projects throughout many departments in the GSBMS and is enthusiastic about being a role model for girls interested in STEM careers and a director of a research group that aims to understand neurodegenerative diseases. Christina Signoretti, a student in the Integrated Ph.D. Program in the laboratory of Sachin A. Gupte, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pharmacology and graduate program director, was a co-chair for the Entire Story, Top to Bottom - Microvascular Homeostasis in Health and Disease Session at the American Physiology Summit in Long Beach, California, April 20-23. She facilitated the session discussing the role of different organ systems in microvascular homeostasis. She also presented a poster in the Mitochondrial Metabolic and Redux Pathways in Vascular Health and Disease Session, “Insight into the increased risk associated with CRISPR-generated African G6PD variant (N126D) in rat model of sugen-5416-induced pulmonary hypertension,” discussing her contributions on understanding the role of the African G6PD variant on pulmonary hypertension and its detrimental effects.

Jan Geliebter, Ph.D., professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology and associate professor of otolaryngology, and Raj K. Tiwari, Ph.D., professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology and associate professor of otolaryngology, along with five graduate students, presented their work at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, from April 14 – 19.
