Two Distinguished Speakers to Share Wisdom with Class of 2022
The NYMC community is gearing up for the 163rd Commencement under the tent on the Valhalla campus, the first in-person commencement ceremony in two years. Sherlita Amler, M.D, M.S, R.N., Ed.S., C.E.M., Commissioner of Health in Westchester County will address the GSBMS and SHSP class of 2022 on Tuesday, May 24, at 1:00 p.m., and Albert Bourla, D.V.M., Ph.D., chair and chief executive officer of Pfizer will address the SOM on Thursday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. Both distinguished experts played key roles during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clinical Laboratory Sciences Master’s Program Receives Full Accreditation
The Master of Science Clinical Laboratory Sciences program in the GSBMS was granted accreditation for five years by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The accreditation, awarded to the program for the first time, gives the program national recognition and affirms the program’s high academic standards. Read the full article.

Faculty Members Recognized as Healthcare Heroes by Westchester Magazine
NYMC faculty members were among 12 “2022 Healthcare Heroes” selected by Westchester Magazine for their valiant and dedicated efforts to health care in Westchester and beyond. Lori Solomon, M.D. ’99, M.P.H. ’09, Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., and Gregory R. NYMC Students and Faculty Shine at TU Research Day
As part of TU's 50th Anniversary series of celebratory events, the first Research Day for the entire TU community took place on May 3. The event recognized the best faculty research publications in 2019 and the best student posters presented at Research Day 2022. Ph.D. candidates in microbiology and immunology, Michelle Carnazza, left, and Tara Jarboe and M.D./Ph.D. candidate Sina Dadafarin won for best student posters while faculty members Julio Panza, M.D., professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Cardiology, and Sangmi Chung, Ph.D., associate professor of cell biology and anatomy, were recognized for their publications. Department of Surgery Hosts 19th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Distinguished Visiting Professorship and Research Day
The Department of Surgery hosted the 19th Annual Louis R.M. DelGuercio Distinguished Visiting Professorship and Research Day on May 6, with keynote speaker Rifat Latifi, M.D., former chair of the Department of Surgery and now Minister of Health for the Republic of Kosovo. During his address, Dr. Latifi shared his perspective on mitigating health disparities and transforming health care in Kosovo through centers of excellence. Read the article and view the photos.

The 19th COVID-19 Symposium in the series sponsored by NYMC and TU will take place on Wednesday, May 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The webinar will cover the public health career landscape; the benefits of a fourth dose of vaccine; disparities in vaccination rates; supply chain issues in the shipment of drugs; and safety concerns surrounding summer activities. Marissa Mann, SLP Class of 2022, Wants to Be an Agent of Change in Her Patients’ Lives
Marissa Mann, SLP Class of 2022, became interested in SLP because it would give her a chance to be a health worker in a variety of different environments. Since deciding to study SLP at NYMC, Ms. Mann has taken advantage of the diverse coursework and clinical studies offered by the College and has gained an appreciation for the profession and the benefits it can bring to patients’ lives.
