May 18–24 is EMS Week, honoring those who provide critical emergency care. Among the pioneers was Edwin Brown Jenks, M.D., Class of 1901, former instructor of physiology, who was the founder of the Diamond Point Emergency Medical Service, the first rural emergency medical service in New York State. He trained first responders, secured an ambulance, and expanded the service to nearby towns including Lake George and Bolton Landing. The service gained national attention in 1944 when Farm Journal highlighted it as a model for rural emergency care.
