Clinical Skills and Simulation Center Purchases Pediatric Emergency Airway Management Task Trainers with the Support of The Children's Dream Foundation

New York Medical College is one of four organizations to receive 2020 training grants from The Children's Dream Foundation, an organization working to advance pediatric emergency medicine in New York's Hudson Valley region, during a very competitive grant cycle. The grant will allow the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center to purchase a family of Pediatric Emergency Airway Management Task Trainers (teenager, adolescent, infant and difficult airway) to train for pediatric intubation and airway management. The equipment will be used to train medical students and first line responders in their education of pediatric emergency care at a critical time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Faculty and Students Publish Study Demonstrating that Black Seed Oil Plus Omega-3s May Counter Obesity-Induced Inflammation and Insulin Resistance

A study conducted at New York Medical College (NYMC) this summer and published in Antioxidants demonstrated that combining omega-3 fatty acids with a standardized oil from black cumin (Nigella sativa) may significantly reduce inflammation caused by a high-fat (Western) diet. The study, "Cold-Pressed Nigella Sativa Oil Standardized to 3% Thymoquinone Potentiates Omega-3 Protection Against Obesity-Induced Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Markers of Insulin Resistance Accompanied with Conversion of White to Beige Fat" was led by Nader Abraham, Ph.D., Dr.H.C., FAHA, professor of medicine and pharmacology, and involved several School of Medicine (SOM) students from the Class of 2023 - Leah Gancz, Lior Levy, Ariel Sasson, Joseph Trainer and Abraham Resnick. Middle States Re-accreditation Update

Last week an email was sent to the New York Medical College (NYMC) community with a link to view a draft of the NYMC Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Self-Study. The community may provide comments on the draft in relationship to each of the MSCHE Seven Standards for Accreditation in the context of the College's mission and goals. All faculty, students and staff are encouraged to participate. The final NYMC MSCHE Self-Study will be submitted to MSCHE early in 2021, incorporating the feedback from the College community.
