Students Aid NYC Marathon Runners in Unique Clinical Setting


As more than 50,000 marathon runners from around the world tackled the 26.2 miles of the TCS New York City Marathon on November 3, 2024, many found support from dozens of NYMC students volunteering as medical aid, making this unforgettable milestone even more meaningful.

Anesthesiology Interest Group Tackles Invasive Plants to Support Pollinators at Ward Acres Park


The NYMC Anesthesiology Interest Group gathered in New Rochelle to help with pulling, digging, and cutting invasive plants around Ward Acres Park to make room for beneficial native plants that provide nectar, pollen, and berries for pollinators like Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and songbirds on November 9.

NYMC HOME Annual Health Fair Empowers Local Residents with Essential Health Resources


The NYMC Homeless Outreach and Medical Education (HOME) hosted their annual Health Fair in White Plains at the Grace Episcopal Church on November 8. They provided BP screenings, eye exams, Narcan/CPR training, social resources, and gift bags for local residents. HOME is a student organization that works to reduce health care disparities by serving individuals living on the streets of Westchester County and providing preventative medical care as well as education, food, clothing, and information regarding social resources.

Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the SHSP and vice president for government affairs, presented “The Multi- System and Multi- Societal Effects of Perinatal Infections” at the 20th Annual Hudson Valley Regional Perinatal Public Health Conference, Partnerships for Perinatal Health: Novel Approaches toward Breastfeeding, Equity and Professional Resilience, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel in Tarrytown, New York, on November 13.

Vishnu Chaturvedi, Ph.D., FECMM, FADLM, FRCPath, professor of pathology, microbiology and immunology, was elected by the Royal College of Pathologists to Fellowship of the College by Published Works (Research). 

Uchechukwu Igwe, right, a Dr.P.H. student and graduate of the LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) program at the Westchester Institute for Human Development (WHID), presented a poster, “Family Professional Partnerships: Perceptions and Experiences of Parents of Children with Disabilities,” at the 2024 Association of University Centers on Disabilities Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., on November 3 – 6. The research was completed while she was a LEND trainee.  Angel Morales, M.P.H. ’21, left, project manager at WIHD, and Julia Muggia, center, LEND family specialist at WIHD, joined her at the conference.
