Steven Lansman, M.D., Ph.D., is Named Interim Chair of the Department of Surgery | Steven Lansman, M.D., Ph.D., professor of surgery, has been appointed interim chair of the Department of Surgery at NYMC as well as interim director of the Department of Surgery at WMC where he is also director of cardiothoracic surgery. A national search will be conducted for the chair position, which was vacated by Rifat Latifi, M.D., FACS, FICS, who was appointed Minister of Health for the Republic of Kosovo. M.P.H. Candidate Bruno S. Villazhiñay Matute Reaches Out to Local Hispanic Communities | Bruno Villazhiñay Matute, a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) student in health policy and management and administrator of biomedical research administration at NYMC, is using his Applied Practice Experience (APE) in the SHSP to help educate the Westchester community, especially the Hispanic population in the county, about the COVID-19 vaccines and emergency preparedness. Amy Ansehl, M.S.N., D.N.P., FNP-BC, top center, associate dean for student experience and associate professor of public health, and Padmini Murthy, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., M.Phil., CHES, bottom left, professor of public health and global health director, presented a webinar, “Taking Care of Your Mental Wellbeing,” on November 16, sponsored by the American Heart Association. Focusing on entering the holidays and winter months armed with the tools to take care of mental health, the presentation represented the School of Health Sciences and Practice as the designated school for the United Nations Academic Impact Sustainable Development Goal 3 Hub for good health and well-being for all. | | |

Robert M. Califf, M.D., was recently nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Califf gave the commencement address to the Class of 2017 at NYMC’s 158th Commencement exercises. | |
