NYMC Marks 150 Year Academic Affiliation with NYC Health+Hospitals/Metropolitan with Celebration Symposium


NYMC and Metropolitan Hospital marked their historical 150-year academic affiliation with a Celebration Symposium at Metropolitan on November 19. NYMC and Metropolitan have been affiliated since the hospital's founding in 1875, making this the longest affiliation between a private medical school and a municipal public hospital in U.S. history.

SOM Class of 2029 Comes Together for Friendsgiving Celebration


Members of the SOM Class of 2029 gathered on November 18 for the annual tradition of Friendsgiving. During the festive evening, planned by the M1 Student Senators, students expressed gratitude to those who had been instrumental in helping them complete their first module of classes, as well as to each other, and enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving buffet.

NYMC and TU Hosted Webinar Series: “Ninety Minutes: The Medical Magazine of the Web” 


NYMC and TU presented “Ninety Minutes: The Medical Magazine of the Web” on November 20. Moderated by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer, the webinar featured faculty experts who discussed recommendations for flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines, the status of monitoring infectious diseases in the community with wastewater measurements, over-prescribing antibiotics for children, de-escalation of therapy for multiple sclerosis, and the long-term effects of immunosuppressive therapy for multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other diseases on oral health.

Third Volume of Medical Halachah Annual Links Halachah and Modern Medical Ethics


Mosaica Press, in collaboration with TU and NYMC, has just released the third volume of “Medical Halachah Annual." Building on the success of its first and second volumes, this edition delves deeper into the intricate interplay between traditional Jewish law and contemporary medical issues and focuses on questions of Jewish law for physicians, patients and students.

NYMC would like to display the artistic talents of our students on the back cover of Chironian, the College's annual magazine. If you would like to share your original artwork or photography inspired by your own experiences at NYMC, please submit them to chironian@nymc.edu, along with the title and a brief description for consideration. TCDM Students Volunteer at Pop-Up Dental Clinic


On November 8-9, six TCDM students joined TCDM alumna E. Ahono Gildersleeve, D.D.S. ’20, at a pop-up dental clinic in Butler, Pennsylvania, organized under the auspices of Remote Area Medical (RAM), a nonprofit organization that provides free health care services to underserved communities. A native of Butler and a third-generation dentist, Dr. Gildersleeve was thrilled to bring the team to her hometown, where 368 patients received triage screenings, cleanings, fillings, and extractions at the two-day event.

Students Lead Community Health Fair Offering Wide-Ranging Health Resources


NYMC’s Homeless Outreach and Medical Education led a community health fair at Grace Episcopal Church on November 14, bringing together volunteers from across campus—including the Dermatology Interest Group and UV&Me—to serve White Plains residents. The event featured a wide range of booths, staffed by medical student volunteers, offering mental health resources, sexual health education, blood testing, blood pressure screenings, as well as information on reproductive care, skin cancer prevention, infectious diseases, and dental care.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

From Medical Student to Ironman


After years of testing his limit with endurance-based challenges, Ryan Mohebpour, SOM Class of 2028, had his sights set on completing his first Ironman challenge. He kept waiting for the “perfect time” to finish the triathlon of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and 26.2-mile run. “Eventually, I realized that the perfect moment would never magically appear, I had to create it,” he said.

In recognition of Epilepsy Awareness Month in November, Manisha G. Holmes, M.D., FAES, associate professor of neurology, was invited to the Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins’ weekly briefing on November 17, to discuss epilepsy.

Collection boxes are available in student housing and the Dr. Edward F. and Mrs. Anna M. Asprinio Fitness Center at 19 Skyline Drive.
