NYMC Expands Recreational Facilities with New Multi-Sport Courts
Members of the NYMC community can now enjoy basketball, tennis, and pickleball on the newly constructed courts on campus behind 7 Dana Road. The College is currently providing equipment, though students are encouraged to bring their own racquets and balls. "Our new basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts are just one of the many exciting campus enhancements designed to foster community, encourage wellness, and provide students with even more ways to stay active and connected," said Rob Lancia, M.A., director of public safety and campus operations.

October 22 is Proclaimed
New York Medical College Day
The 165th anniversary of NYMC and the Founder’s Dinner was occasion to proclaim October 22, as New York Medical College Day by New York State Senator and Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. The proclamation publicly acknowledges NYMC’s exemplary service, significant contributions, and accomplishments within the community and New York State.

TCDM Students Present at the Academy of Laser Dentistry Annual Conference
Alexander Smyke, left, TCDM Class of 2027, left, and Daniella Kohler, right, TCDM Class of 2026, represented TCDM with pride and professionalism at the Academy of Laser Dentistry Annual Conference in September in Washington, D.C. Smyke presented a poster, “3DI Approach: Degranulation, Debridement, Decontamination, Implantoplasty Using Er:YAG for Peri-Implantitis,” which took third place. Kohler, presented a poster, "Comparative Evaluation of Laser and Conventional Handpiece Techniques in Caries Removal: A Laboratory-Based Experimental Study.” Their faculty mentors were Daniella Gurpegui Abud, D.D.S., M.S., assistant director of screening, emergency, and referral, and Jaffer A. Shariff, D.D.S., M.S., M.P.H., D.P.H., director of research, respectively.

TCDM Walks for Wishes
Thirty-one TCDM students, from all class years, participated in the 2025 Annual Walk for Wishes event at Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow, New York, on October 5. Organized by Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, the event raises funds to help grant life-changing wishes for children diagnosed with critical illnesses. The atmosphere was filled with hope, compassion, and teamwork as participants supported the cause and walked to celebrate the power of wishes and the strength of every child.

Odaelys Pollard, Ph.D. '15, Champions STEM and Empowers Future Scientists
The first step is the most important in any journey. Throughout her impactful career in academia, Odaelys Pollard Ph.D. ’15, has empowered thousands of high school students as a mentor in the New York State Department of Education Science and Technology Entry Program and similar programs aimed at increasing the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepare for college, and to improve their participation rate in STEM related careers.

Mitchell S. Cairo, M.D., professor of pediatrics, medicine, pathology, microbiology and immunology, and cell biology and anatomy, and vice chair of the Department of Pediatrics, was invited to give an oral presentation at the 57th Congress of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology in Amsterdam, October 20-23. He presented “Final Results of The Safety and Efficacy of Related Donor-Derived CMV and ADV Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes (CTLS) in Children and Adolescents with Medically Refractory Infections.” Dr. Cairo is pictured with one of his collaborators, Ana Xavier, M.D., professor of pediatrics, Heersink School of Medicine.

Holz, Ph.D., M.P.H. ’23, Dr.P.H. ’24, dean of the GSBMS, special assistant to the chancellor, and professor of cell biology and anatomy, was invited to attend the Life Science Editors Symposium in Shanghai, China, on October 25, to discuss integrating her work as the editor-in-chief of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) Reviews on Cancer as a scientist and dean.
