NYMC and TU faculty experts shared their thoughts on popular topics in medicine at the webinar, “Ninety Minutes: The Medical Magazine of the Web,” on November 2. Hosted by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer of NYMC with a question-and-answer session moderated by Alan Kadish, M.D., president of NYMC and TU, the webinar covered remedies for temporomandibular disorders; therapy for ingrown toenails; current state-of-therapy for recurrent urinary tract infections in women; treatments for "weekend warriors" with an Achilles tendon rupture; and a panel discussion on the importance of annual physical examinations. Eva Chorna, SOM Class of 2024, has worked with faculty advisor Cara Grimes, M.D., associate chair of research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the SOM, and her researcher team to analyze the ways people use Twitter to share information around obstetrics and gynecology and the types of users sharing information, and sometimes even misinformation. Akos Koller, M.D., Ph.D., professor emeritus of physiology, was recognized with the prestigious 2023 Landis Award at the Microcirculatory Society Vascular Biology 2023 Annual Meeting in Newport, Rhode Island, October 15 – 19. He presented "Sensing Flow/Shear Stress in the Microcirculation: The Power of Observation." The annual award was established in 1969 to recognize an outstanding investigator in the field of microcirculation

Kristina H. Petersen, Ph.D., associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, was named one of three Alpha Omega Alpha Richard L. Byyny Fellows in Leadership for 2023. She is the first Ph.D. to be selected in the history of the program, which provides funding for further development of leadership skills through a specific year-long project.

Kathryn Spanknebel, M.D., FACS, senior associate dean of faculty and academic affairs, associate professor of surgery and vice chancellor for student mental health and wellness, was recognized for outstanding leadership and excellence in surgical education with induction as a full member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Academy of Master Surgeon Educators™, on October 6 in Chicago. The Academy's mission is to play a leadership role in advancing the science and practice of education across all surgical specialties, promoting the highest achievements in the lifetime of surgeons. Individuals are selected following a stringent peer-review process and those selected have consistently demonstrated the highest levels of leadership and excellence in surgical education. Dr. Spanknebel previously served as an associate member of the Academy since 2018 following induction into its inaugural class.

The lobby of 7 Dana Road displays a pediatric examining table from the early 1900s, representing some of the first modern medical office furniture. Before the 20th century, most patients saw doctors at home instead of clinics, as hospitals and outpatient facilities mainly served people of low-income. From the 1890s to the 1930s, visiting doctors' offices grew more common. Medical furniture at the time often used domestic wooden designs to help patients feel at ease outside the home.
