32nd Annual Faculty Author Awards Highlights Faculty Excellence
The College community recognized the 420 the faculty authors whose academic works enriched the scientific and medical literature throughout 2024. Their collective achievements included 792 publications, 595 articles, 164 published conference abstracts, 3 authored and edited books, and 30 book chapters.

NYMC Goes Orange for Physical Therapy Month
The NYMC community celebrated National Physical Therapy Month with a Go Orange photo-op with Walter L. Jenkins, D.H.S., M.S., PT, ACT, AT-Ret, division chief and program director of physical therapy, and Kristina Welsome, D.P.T., M.S., PT, OCS, CFMT, MTC, NBC-HWC, assistant professor of physical therapy, to honor the essential contributions of physical therapists, assistants, and students who transform lives through their care on October 22. In the afternoon, D.P.T. students hosted ChatDPT, an interdisciplinary event that brought together SLP, M.D., and D.D.S. students and faculty to explore opportunities for collaborative care, emphasizing the importance of recognizing when referrals to physical therapy are warranted to address physical, emotional, mental, and behavioral concerns that impact mobility, strength, balance, and overall well-being.

Students Carve Out Creativity at the NYMC Pumpkin Carving Contest
The NYMC community showcased their creativity and craftsmanship at the third annual Jack-O-Lantern Carving Contest sponsored by the Office of Student and Residential Life. Students enjoyed a fall craft table and fire extinguisher demonstration conducted by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.

NYMC/WMC Ophthalmology Alumni Gather for Inaugural Reception at AAO Conference in Orlando
Alumni, residents, and friends gathered for the first NYMC/WMC Ophthalmology Alumni Reception during the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) conference in Orlando, Florida, on October 18. The group met for a friendly competition at Topgolf Orlando, forging new collaborations and providing networking opportunities. "Word from everyone was that it was a really fun event, and the start of great connectivity among the younger alumni," said Kelly A. Hutcheson, M.D., M.B.A., chair and professor in the Department of Ophthalmology.

For Fire Safety Month, the Department of Environmental Health and Safety offered students, faculty, and staff fire extinguisher practice, chemical and general safety information tables, and proper use of personal protective equipment on October 22 in the Basic Sciences Building.

TCDM Goes to the Dominican Republic on a Volunteer Mission Trip
Eight fourth-year TCDM students accompanied by Alan Rosenthal, D.M.D, assistant dean, TCDM global health and community outreach, and Steven Cho, D.D.S., TCDM clinical associate professor of dental medicine, went on a mission to the Dominican Republic, under the auspices of the dental volunteer organization, World of Smiles, October 19-24. The team included prosthodontists, endodontists, oral surgeons, and general dentists.

Harnessing the power of CRISPR screening, Regeneron developed discovery platforms to unravel novel genetic interactions. Regeneron performed high-throughput screens to understand the molecular mechanisms of APOL1-mediated cytotoxicity. Regeneron also explored complementary screening approaches for unbiased identification of cell surface interactions, expanding our understanding of cell-to-cell communication and identifying new therapeutic targets.
