NYMC.edu Gets a Makeover

The newly redesigned NYMC.edu website is now live. This long-anticipated update brings a fresh, modern look and enhanced functionality to our online presence. The development of this new site has been a monumental collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Office of Public Relations and the Touro University Department of Online Services. Together with the dedicated input from administration, faculty, students, and staff across all of our schools, the new website creates a digital experience that truly reflects the spirit and excellence of NYMC.

This redesigned website offers several key improvements:

  • Streamlined navigation for a simpler, more intuitive browsing experience.
  • Fresh aesthetic that aligns with NYMC’s branding while showcasing our integral role within the Touro University system. The new look is professional, modern, and a true reflection of our commitment to excellence.
  • Enhanced content with a particular focus on engaging prospective students and the general public. This update ensures that our message is clear, compelling, and accessible to all.

Additional enhancements, including updated videos and the integration of up-to-date faculty lists directly from Banner, are slated for the future.

Chavi Eve Karkowsky, M.D., Shares Powerful Stories and Insights on High-Risk Pregnancy During Community Book Discussion

On September 24, the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library hosted a compelling book reading by Chavi Eve Karkowsky, M.D., center, a high-risk obstetrician and vice chair of clinical affairs of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Karkowsky read excerpts from her book High Risk: Stories of Pregnancy, Birth, and the Unexpected, sharing powerful stories of patients making some of the most difficult decisions of their lives—decisions with lasting impacts on their babies. Drawing from her decades of experience in maternal-fetal medicine, Dr. Karkowsky explored the complex and often unseen side of pregnancy and childbirth. “My work offers a window into the darkest and lightest corners of people’s lives, into the extremes of human experience,” she writes in High Risk, a timely and unflinching narrative that illuminates both the beauty and the hardships that come with high-risk pregnancies. In addition to recounting personal patient stories, Dr. Karkowsky addressed critical societal issues such as the alarming rise in maternal mortality rates, the growing trend of home births, and the historical implications of involuntary sterilization. Her storytelling painted a vivid picture of the challenges, joys, and systemic complexities surrounding reproductive care.
