Food Stamps
On June 14th, Elizabeth Setaro & Emily Johnston will conduct a statewide webinar to present on the return of the Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) requirements for food stamps. Beginning in July, individuals between 18 and 50 years of age with the ability to work in a household without children will be subject to work requirements. ABAWDs who meet the criteria will be subject to a three-month limit for FNS benefits within a 36-month period unless they meet certain exemptions. This presentation will give an overview of the program rules and prepare advocates to identify potential ABAWDs and exemption eligibility.
Please email Jules Taylor for the link to the event.

Celebrate Pride Month with us!
This month we, along with so many, acknowledge June as LGBTQ +Pride Month. To our LGBTQ+ colleagues, interns, collaborating partners, clients and volunteers, we see you and we celebrate you. The community has and continues to navigate and prevail against adverse times.
At the Advocacy Center we believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. As we commemorate Pride Month, we want to emphasize the importance of acceptance, respect, and equality for all individuals.
We as an organization must rise to the call of allyship. Allyship in the workplace means creating and maintaining an environment of understanding and empathy for the lived experience of our LGBTQ+ team members and associates., To support these efforts, our SharePoint and other staff communication will feature content representing the history and culture of the LGBTQ+ community all month long.
Let us continue to support and uplift our LGBTQ+ colleagues, clients and community members not only during Pride Month but throughout the year. Together, we can create a workplace that champions inclusivity, understanding, and mutual respect.

Honoring Our Past, Embracing Our Future
On June 19th, 2023, our country will observe Juneteenth as a day of celebration. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas, effectively marking the end of chattel slavery in the United States on that day in 1866. Juneteenth only became a federal holiday three years ago, but the date was revered by the communities of formerly enslaved people since this first anniversary.
In observance of this important holiday, we have organized a special guest speaker who will address our team during our All-Staff meeting on June 15th. Dr. Felecia Harris will share her insights, experiences, and knowledge, shedding light on the significance of Juneteenth and its relevance in our present-day context. We hope that their words will inspire and deepen our understanding of this historic milestone.
Our office will be closed on Monday, June 19th. We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to participate in the numerous festivals taking place in the community. Here are a few celebrations taking place in the region:
